A James OLDRIDGE marries in Southwark in 1938 to a Miss or Mrs WALKER and this is the James with the best fit. There are some children born in Kensington and Willesden in the 1935-40 period but I doubt if they were the product of this marriage. | OLDRIDGE, James (I21067)

A Joseph OLDRIDGE was buried in Newton St Cyres on 14 January 1809. Whilst it is shown that this Joseph must have died for Molly to have been a widow at her next marriage, it cannot be shown whether the Joseph who was buried in 1809 was this Joseph or the one who married Rebecca MELLISH or the one who married Elizabeth OLDING. | OLDRIDGE, Joseph (I20897)

According to History written by William Howe. 'Abigail was small and dark complexioned. A favorite pastime of hers was horseback riding and a horse was kept for her special use. She was very religious and a constant attendant at church, to which she always went on horseback. One Sunday for some reason she did not go as usual; the horse which was grazing in an adjacent field evidently thought church going was in order, when he saw the people passing by; he jumped the wall and went deliberately to the church door where he stood for his mistress to alight, then in conformity to the usual custom, went and waited in the horse shed until the service was over, and following others again presented himself at the church door, and after a few minutes trotted home again, having carried out his part of the Sabbath observances.' | DUDLEY, Abigail (I23298)

According to the N.Y. Historical Society records, Ashley A. shows up in the NY City directories from 1868 to 1889. His obituary notice appears in the New York Times on January 27, 1890, stating he died January 25, age 69. There were no family connections named. His wife Harriet continues to be listed in the City's directories through 1896, but no obituary notice as found. Apparently, then, Ashley returned to New York City after J.V.'s death and started Ashley A. Vantine & Company. This was first listed in City directories in 1872. It became one of the city's finest department stores, known as Vantine's and was listed in the directories through 1950. It began as a fine import store and increased in stature along this style through the years It was particulary noted for its fine china." | VANTINE, Ashley A. (I9275)
