In 1888 William & Mary joined her parents at Kerfoot (later Gregg) on the Carberry Plains of Manitoba. In all likelyhood they homesteaded the SE 24-11-14 as that is the address on Ethel Belle's birth certificate. Bert Olmstead of Carberry presently ownes this quarter which he refers to as the Whitelaw quarter. Mary Jane Whitelaw had a family of Bob & Jake and Bert purchased from Bob. Bert remembers a small house on the east side of this land and the depression of a basement is still present. The land appears to be sandy and basically covered with brush.
About 1900 the family moved to a farm in the Arizona district as Ada was born. there in March 1901. While there a cyclone went through the area and took the second story off the Campbell house. Williams mother (Rowena Hall) lived in a cottage on the same property and the cyclone turned the cottage 1/4 turn.
Shortly after the cyclone they moved back to Carberry and operated a livery barn there. This was not to successful due in part to too many relatives making the livery barn a stopping place and filling it up.
The family moved to Fleming, Sk. about 1907 and farmed on the Manitoba side of the border.
In the summer of 1921 they moved to Bethune when Milford and Beck started up.
They moved into Moose Jaw in 1923 where they resided untill returning to Fleming in 1928. They remained at Fleming until Mary's death.
The 1905 Hendersons NW Gazeteer & Directory for Carberry indicated Campbell (W.E.) and McIntyre (W.J.) as livery. The l906 Directory has Campbell W.E. as livery and Horace & Milfed as drivers.
