Shortly after they married, they moved to Atlas, Mich., then later to Groveland, but returned to Atlas after 4 years.

NOTE: Thomas Vantine came from Niagara Co., New York, in 1836, and settled on Sec.33 Atlas Twp., Genesee Co. Michigan, close to the line between Genesee and Oakland Counties. He was accompanied by his wife, one son, and one daughter. Two other children stayed in New York for sometime, and came afterward to Michigan. Two of his children -- sons John T. and Peter -- are now living, the former in Groveland, the latter near Goodrichville, Atlas Twp., Genesee Co.
Thomas Vantine was b. June 19, 1786, and is now living with his son, John T. Vantine, in Groveland. Although not a settler of Oakland Co., his is one of the first who located in Genesee, there being but two other families in the neighborhood when he came.
Owing to convulsive fits, he was exempt from all military duty during the war of 1812, although he was 26 years of age when war was declared. His father was a native of Holland, and came with his two brothers to Amerca at an early date. Their ancestors were very wealthy citizens of Holland, and owned seventeen acres in the heart of the Hague, one of its principal cities.
