- San Francisco Call of Jan.15/1867 states: On Pg.3, Col. 2, DIED. VANTINE - In this city, January 14, Captain James Vantine fo the firm of James Vantine & Company, a pioneer merchant of San Francisco, a native of New York, aged 57 years. He was well known throughout the state. Friends and acquaintences are respectfuly invited to attended the funeral tmoorrow, Wednesday Morning at 11:00 o'clock, from the Howard Street M.E. church, between Second and Third". He was interned in Laurel Hill Cemetery (S.F.) and when that cemetery was disbanded bacause of a city ruling, his remains were removed to Cypress Lawn Cemetery at Colma, San Mateo Co., CA and interned, together with the remains of all others from the Laurel Hill Cemetery, who were unclaimed by their heirs, in a common underground vault. (see letter from James V. Mink, dated 6/27/1969).
