The PRO register of seaman's service records his attestation number as being #52535, he enlisted in 1862 having been born in Plymouth in 1848. At the time of their marriage one of the witnesses was a John Mooney; there is a John Mooney on 1871 census at 6 Buckland Terrace, Plymouth
