    OBITUARY OF AZUBA R. LOWN MINK Mrs. Azuba R. Lown Mink passed away at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charles Mink, 347 St. Charles Street this morning at 1:30 o'clock after an illness of fourteen weeks. She was born at Rhinebeck, Dutchess county, New York, Sept. 2, 1842. On March 22, 1859, she was united in marriage to John W. Mink and to this union six children were born, two of whom survive her, a daughter, Mrs. Ada Biever of Aurora, IL, and a son, Clarence E. Mink of Paris, MI. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. E. J. McCarty of LaPort, IN, fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was also a sister-in-law of J. V. Mink and Mrs. Marcia Mink of Elgin. Mrs. Mink came west when a young girl and spent her life here. Her last days were spent in the homes of her daughter and daughter-in-law. She would have been eighty-five years of age next Friday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 from the Norris chapel with the Rev. George T. Green officiating. Interment will be in Bluff City cemetery.     Charles Robert Mink, who died yesterday morning at his home, 347 St. Charles Street, was born June 30, 1866, in Elgin, where he resided most of his life. He was married to Miss Minnie Maxwell September 15, 1889, and to this union four children were born, three of whom are living at the present time. They are Mrs. Barry (Gertrude) Doiel of Langdon, MO; Carl L. and Howard R. Mink of Elgin. Mrs. Mink died September 10, 1899. The deceased was married the second time October 15, 1902, to Miss Gertrude Bayless of Elgin, who survives him. Five children were born to the second union, Marvin, Orville, Walter, Irene and Nina all of whom are living at home. Mr. Mink's mother, Azuba R. Mink of Elgin, a brother, Clarence Mink of Paris, MI; a sister, Mrs. J. W. (Ada) Biever of Aurora and seven grandchildren are also left to mourn his loss. Mr. Mink was a member of Kane lodge, I. O. O. F. No. 47, of the Royal American Life and of the Epworth Methodist Episcopal Church. He had been employed in the plate department of the watch factory since 1889 except for seven years spent in Missouri. He was ever a patient, kind, loving father, son and brother; loved and respected by all who knew him. He died very suddenly after one day of illness. Funeral services will be held from the Epworth M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. George F. Green officiating. Friends may view the body until Sunday morning at the Wait-Ross-Allanson funeral church.     Carl Landon Mink, 78, of 364 Jewett Street, Elgin, died Sunday in Sherman Hospital, Elgin, following a brief illness. Born in Elgin April 23, 1892, he was the son of Charles R. and Minnie Maxwell Mink, and had lived in Elgin all his life. He was a retired employee of the Elgin National Watch Co. and was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and the Valley Golden Agers Club. Surviving are three sons, Robert J. of Dundee, Allan R. of Elgin, and George A. Mink of Ann Arbor, MI; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Wauchope of Elgin and Mrs. Edwin (Nina) Steffan of Carpentersville; two brothers, Orville of South Elgin and Walter of Pelican Lake, WI, and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen F., in 1962; one son, William D.; two brothers, Marvin and Howard, and one sister, Gertrude Doiel. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Tuesday in the Schmidt Funeral Home, with Rev. Elmer Dickson officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. Friends may call in the funeral home after 7 this evening. A memorial has been established for the Epworth United Methodist Church. Reber Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.     CARL LANDON MINK Carl Landon was born at Elgin April 23, 1892. He worked at the Elgin National Watch Company most of his life. (44 years) At 25 he married Ellen Florence Johns on June 14, 1917, at Elgin. Ellen was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (James) Johns. She was born December 27, 1895 at Elgin, Illinois. Ellen and Carl had four sons, all born at Elgin: Robert John, born August 10, 1918, married July 5, 1950, Lillian Bican, at Algonquin, McHenry Co., IL; William Donald, born July 3, 1922, died September 23, 1926, at Elgin; Allan Richard, born april 16, 1926, married first Barbara Jean Ludwig, June 19, 1948 at Elgin, second Beverly Ann (Baker) Kelley, June 5, 1964 at Elgin; and George Arthur, born June 8, 1931, married August 19, 1956, Marjorie Simpson, at Hinsdale, DuPage Co., IL. The family lived at 364 Jewett Street in Elgin. They were all active members of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Carl having sung in the chior most of the time of his membership. (his step-mother was a charter member) In later years he was also active in the Valley Golden Agers Club. Ellen died August 26, 1962 of heart failure and Carl December 27, 1970 of the same.     OBITUARY OF HOWARD ROBERT MINK

    Howard Robert Mink, 70, of 625 Washburn Street, died unexpectedly today in his home. An Elgin resident for 65 years, he was born September 5, 1895, in Martinstown, MO, a son of Charles and Minnie Maxwell Mink. He was a retired employee of Elgin National Watch Company and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Elgin Post 57, American Legion. Surviving are the widow, Stella F.Pearson Mink; two sons, Donald H. and Earl M., both of Elgin; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Barry (Gertrude) Doiel of Hamburg, IA, Mrs. Irene Wauchope of Elgin and Mrs. Edwin (Nina) Steffan of Carpentersville; three brothers, Carl of Elgin, Orville of South Elgin, and Walter of Pelican Lake, WS. A brother, Marvin, preceded him in death. Services will be held at 10 Wednesday in the Stout Funeral Home the Rev. William H. Clark, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.     Marvin was born at home while his folks were living at ____ Dwight Street in Elgin. At a young age he developed rheumatoid arthritis and Walt can remember having to carry him to the car so he could be driven up to a Mrs Holms to have physical therapy. During World War II he was drafted and sent to Camp Grant at Rockford, Illinois. It was only a short time when they realized that Marvin wasn't physically able to keep up with the troops and was given a medical discharge. One of Marvin's first jobs was that of a helper on a truck with his brother Orville at Landon Cartage Company. He later worked as a freight handler for the Chicago, Northwestern Railroad at the Elgin freight office on North Street and Douglas Ave.

    Orville B. 'Pete' Mink, 79, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of South Elgin, died Sunday in Mesa Luthern Hospital, Mesa. He was born August 6, 1905, in Elgin, the son of Charles and Gertrude Bayless Mink. He had lived in South Elgin most of his life and had been employed by Steffan Brothers Construction Co. before retiring in 1971 and moving to Mesa. He had been a member of the South Elgin Community United Methodist Church and St. Andrews Methodist Church of Mesa. Surviving are a son, Philip of Mesa; a daughter, Mrs. Jesse (Carol) Meyers of Monroe, LA; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Walter of Elcho, WS; and two sisters, Irene Wauchope and Nina Steffan, both of Elgin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Perkins Mink. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. William Blomberg and the Rev. Walter Lunsford, officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home and Friday until the time of the funeral. DAILY COURIER-NEWS - WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1984 Orville was born in the third house west of Raymond Street, on the south side of Dwight Street in Elgin. In 1907 they moved to southern Missouri on a farm near Mansfield. (on Pea Ridge) The move was made to help his mother with her asthma problem and the move helped greatly. Returning to Elgin in 1916, they lived first at 426 S. Liberty St for a short time and then moved to 347 St. Charles Street. He attended Lincoln School and then the first three years of Elgin High, having to quit to help out, after his dad died in 1923.(would have graduated with the Class of 1925) His first job was with the Elgin Case Factory in 1924 and in 1925 went to work in the assembly room of the Elgin National Watch Company.(Chet Perkins was his foreman) When the depression came, he and Walter were 'let go' at the watch factory, so they started 'Mink Brothers Garage' in the double garage behind their house. 1932 found him working for Landon Cartage Company at the C. NW railroad yard at Proviso, Illinois. He worked there until 1945 when Walt and him started Surburban Machine Shop in Wooddale, Illinois. In late 1949, he and Harriet moved to Pelican Lake, Wisconsin, where he worked for a boat factory making wooden boats.
